Mr. Villafuerte

Education: I completed my education at the University of Texas Brownsville and earned a bachelor's degree in Biology. I completed my masters degree at the University of Texas Arlington.

Experience & commitment to Gateway: Gateway holds a special place in my heart because this is my first assigned teaching position. I am in my third year of teaching science composite, and look forward to coming to this campus everyday. As opposed to a traditional campus, Gateway is a technology based alternative school with new challenges everyday to keep me engaged in my career as a teacher. I am fully committed to the education of my students as well as their education past their time as high school students.

Learning experience that changed me: My time served as the president of my national fraternity, Tau Kappa Epsilon, made me into a better leader and a more understanding individual. The amount of personalities that you have to work with, and age differences you have to be conscious of could be daunting at times. However, I feel as if my experience there and success has enabled me to be a better fit as a teacher in this campus. The age range of our students at this campus is a wide, and because of my time in the fraternity dealing with similar circumstances I feel that this teaching position was the perfect fit for me.

Favorite book: My favorite book would have to be Odyssey because I have always enjoyed reading greek mythology. The various hardships that the main character has to go through and overcome in  order to return home is truly inspiring.
