Mr. Miner

Education: I attended McAllen Memorial High School from 2013-2016, and I graduated from Saint Joseph Academy in 2017. I attended Trinity University from 2017-2021 and I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History. I specialize in medieval history and history of the ancient world. I attended Thurgood Marshall School of Law for 1 year from 2021-2022 before making the decision to become a teacher. I also coach football for VMA and San Benito High School.

Experience: While this is my first-year teaching, I am not new to a leadership or teaching role. During my undergrad years at Trinity, I played football for the Tigers, and I learned a lot about how great leaders are able to promote discipline, maximum effort, and accountability within their team. Those principles that I learned from coaches with over 30 years of experience, including NFL experience, will stay with me forever and helped shape who I am today. The reason why I became a football coach is because I love the sport and I love helping young men grow and develop both their athletic ability and also their character. The most important factors to keep in mind when leading a team, or a classroom, are proper communication, setting realistic expectations, and becoming invested in not only your own success, but the success of everyone around you.

What I bring to the classroom: I bring energy and the constant drive to succeed. I became a teacher because I have a passion for helping others become the best version of themselves. I will not let anyone give up on their education, and I will not let anyone give up on themselves. Everyone has the ability to do great things, it's only a matter of discovering your gift and pursuing excellence.

Favorite Books: My favorite book is Animal Farm by George Orwell. Animal Farm is a story about farm animals who are tired of being bossed around by humans due to factors like unfairness and bad working conditions. The farm animals rallied around their leader, carried out a revolution, and slowly but surely, the farm animals themselves turned into the very thing that they hated the most. It's a powerful story about corruption, how easy it is to change ideology based on outside factors, and the importance of being self-aware.
